My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine . . .
. . . Pizzas. As you’ve probably heard by now, Pluto got hosed. I’m not going to make the decision in anger, but I’m contemplating running a resolution to acknowledge that Utah continues to recognize 9 planets.
Since when do astronomers get to call the shots on this sort of thing? They’re not even awake during the day, for heaven’s sake.
Two points to consider: (1) Has Pluto ever hurt anyone? No. (2) Does the mnemonic work without Pluto? No. "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine" makes no sense at all. Nine what? Nine Pizzas, of course! "P" for Pluto. See? That makes sense.
I’m sticking with the facts I learned at Ridgecrest Elementary in Houston. Pluto is a planet, and Texas won the Alamo.

Representative Urquhart,
Thanks for your comment on my blog about Pluto's devolution to something less than a planet. I think it is a great idea to get a Washington County resolution to not recognize this heinous, inept fluff. Let's start Southern Utahns for the Planet Pluto!
Besides, I'm a political junkie who is keen for some legislation drafting experience.
LOL!
I am a little concerned that you would address this issue on the taxpayer dime. To run a resolution contesting Pluto's legitimacy as a planet would be absurd. Not to mention a complete waste of money and man-hours. I would hope that a fiscally conservative Representative would keep in mind that even the smallest resolutions need to be researched and drafted by legislative staff. All this, would cost the taxpayers money and use valuable resources that could be allocated to projects of greater concern. I hope your comments were made in jest and that you are now teaching children, "My Mother Just Served Us Noodles" Thank you for hearing me out on this issue. I am a Republican that is starting to think the leaders of our party have forgotten what makes us Republicans.

Hey "None"/"Anonymous",
Stop being a dumb ass. Urquhart was joking. It's called political satire.
Don't reply with an "I was joking too so you're the dumbass" comment because it is obvious that you took this seriously when it was intended to be a joke.
None,
My kids also came up with "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Noodles." I said it would work better as "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nada," and then sent them to bed without dinner for their impertinence.
Yes, resolutions have some expense. But if saving an entire planet isn't worth it, what is?
change nine to nuts!!!
Y? B/c we r nuts!!!
I can't believe this is the only website I can find for Steve Urquhart, who I thought was a serious politician. Can someone direct me to his real website with issues information?
His opponent, Don Miller, has even less easily accessible information available and tends to be more left-leaning than I would prefer.
So whom do I vote for? Mr. U? Or nobody?
I hope someone can direct me to more useful info than this inadequate blog. Thanks in advance.
Steve
