I wondered what happened first, the filing to run or the divorce. On a historical note, I recall reading that the first woman elected in the Utah State Senate ran and won against her husband (i think that is the right story). Surprisingly, all indications were that the marriage survived the election. Her statue is in the State Capitol.
Yes, Dr. Martha Hughes Cannon bested her husband (and several others) to become the first State Senator, not only in Utah, but also in the entire country. Extraordinary woman. Also, fyi, the sculpture in the Capitol was done by Laura Lee Bradshaw -- who happens to have a sculpture exhibited in St. George's "Art Around the Corner" street exhibition that my wife (who, apparently, based on the comment above, will be my next political challenger) organized with L'Deanne Trueblood, Matt Clark and several others.
After seeing some of the tactics used in 2004 by both "conservative" and liberal special interest groups and the politicians themselves in some of Utah's races, I can hardly be surprised at anything any more. I did get a rude awakening then (being fairly new to "politics'). What shocked me especially then were the ones run by fellow Republicans against each other.

Some people like to aire their dirty laundry in public. Others like to rub the public's face in it.
Steve,
There is something I have to tell you...

Sorry Steve, if Sara does run, I will have to throw my support behind her.

Steve - are you supporting tuition tax credits? We need it to pass or we face a huge problem in the future funding education!!!
Sure, what's another welfare program?
