United States Senate

I'm running for the United States Senate. We need to swing wide the doors to the federal government and let people have a look and a say. It's time for change.

If you'll promise to spend more time visiting rural Utah than writing love songs you got my vote.

This is great news! I can't tell you how exciting this is. Orrin has been pretty good, for an out of touch name dropping music writing old coot from DC. And I've actually voted for him every time he's run. And I think he saved Clarence Thomas. But, he really doesn't do anything for Utah anymore, and he's just been there too damn long. Plus, he gets used by Ted Kennedy. He's like Ted Kennedy's personal baseball mit. Now, Urquhart, on the other hand, is everything Hatch used to be: fresh, tech savvy, smart. Orrin's going to tell us that we need senority. But we can ge that by sending a potted plant back to DC, and we could save a lot of money on salaries. What we really need is a new team. New players. New ideas and a new approach. I am very pleased with this candidacy.

Thank you! I'm pleased and surprised by the support that is coming in (even some money). For those who want to help, the best thing for now will be to join up at www.steveu.com under the GET INVOLVED button. Also, send me an e-mail and let me know what you want to do to help out. Already some people have offered to do wonderful things that I hadn't even considered. The collective wisdom and work of average people will carry us over the line.

Horace, you've got a deal. And you've inspired me; maybe I should have a "greatest hits" section on the website for my top blog entries.

When Orrin first ran 30 years ago, gas prices were .59/gallon. Today, I spent $2.27, it cost $50 bucks to fill the tank.

In 1976, there was no such thing as a blog, the internet, and the only surfing going on in Utah was on the television and the amazing thing is we only had 5 channels and that “new” UHF station.

As with time, change is inevitable, I would like to thank Orrin for his service but with due respect I think it is time for him to step down.

Like Orrin of old (1976), Steve is the rising star of this generation. To put it simply, Orrin was then, Steve is now, and the future is up for grabs.

Best wishes Steve, we will be watching.

Great decision Steve. I've had a first hand account of your hard work and dedication in the legislature. I know your the man for the job.

Hatch has a fat campaign wallet but the future of Utah is not up for sale. Lets remind Utah that you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

STEVE U FOR SENATE!

I had despaired thinking that nobody would work to force Hatch into retirement. You've got an uphill battle, but it's worth the fight.

As an ex and future Utahn I am very interested in your candidacy. I think now may be a very good time for a change.

On another note - can you get your blog publishing a feed so that I can add you to my feed reader? - Feel free to ask me questions if you need help with that.

I have been very impressed with the way you have used your blog to inform your constituents - you're a very 21st century public servant.

Mr. Urquhart

Congratulations on your decision to run against Mr. Hatch. I hope you are successful!! As a New Yorker, I have little to do with UTAH, however, as that same New Yorker, I have a lot to do with how the highest branches of the federal government affect my state. WHEN YOU WIN, Please keep in mind that NY is not Utah (try to wipe the smile off your face!). The decisions you will have to make could easily change aspects of the way of life of a typical New Yorker. But, you must remember that you can't hold the planet to your standard. You must consider deeply how these decisions will affect people who choose to live a different life from you. Bear with my ignorance!!!!!! What works well with an individual from Utah might not fly in Manhattan.

I am a psychologist,. and firmly believe that perspective matters. I suggest you run a fascinating experiment using yourself as confederate. Take the other perspective once in a while. Become the other person. See it, Feel it, perceive it...taste it...smell it...from the point of view of the other. It will take you a long way having people accept and expect that you understand.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!

Steve, your candidacy for US Senate is the most excitng news for Utah!

Getting to know you and observe your efforts to support Utah needs with the legislature is refreshing. Your record truly demonstrates an interest in Utah, not only Washington County, but of us who live in our great state.

Count us in in Cache Valley, and be prepared for the northern support.
Go Aggies, Go Jazz, and most of all, GO STEVE!

I am not a Utah voter but I am thrilled to see someone take Orrin Hatch on. Its time for Hatch to start collecting his pension. He has just gotten way too cozy with the politicians there who ride him like a donkey.

Go Steve!
