Did I Just See . . .

Last night I turned on the TV in my hotel room while I changed between meetings. Though I didn't have time to stay and watch (and believe me, I would have), I swear I saw 4-time world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield on a ballroom dance Survivor show.

Just last week I told Sara that, even though I'm 40 (next Monday), I'm still sort of hip to mass culture around me (she laughed and I negotiated for "maybe not totally clueless"). And then this.

I mean somebody's gotta tell me what I just saw. I mean, I saw Evander go toe-to-toe with Big George Foreman and exchange bombs for 10 rounds. I saw him get back in the ring with a mad man who bit off his ear in their first fight. And then this.

Maybe, right when you get to 40, a switch flips. I'm confused. And a little scared. Maybe I just need a nap. And warm milk.

No, you aren't mistaken. Check out http://abc.go.com/primetime/dancing/bios/cast.html. but Personally, I am scared. I don't think I can ever go there again.

Thanks for the link. I see that Evander carried his big boxing problem over to ballroom dancing; you can't leave matters in the hands of the judges! You've got to take care of things yourself and deliver the knockout. When Bruno starts dishing on Evander with the Terminator/Tinkerbell business, if Evander had delivered a knockout right then on Bruno, I have a feeling his future scores would have improved.

In any event, I'm boycotting the show. Was Evander terrible? From what I can see, yes. But that's not the point. Any group that would rather see Peterman or one of the New Kids ballroom dance than see the 4-time heavyweight champion dress up like Liberace and give it the old college try, is not a group I choose to affiliate with.

I will watch when they bring on Karl Malone and dance them all at the same time. Forget the judges; it would be a last-couple-standing format.

I didn't watch any of it. The whole idea sounds a little to Tara Lipinski in the boxing ring for me. Not to mention that if I want to watch people dance, I will turn over the PBS, and watch old movies like singing in the rain.
