Ramping Up
I’m excited about the upcoming general session. Next week, I’ll help with the orientation of the new representatives. They are a wonderfully skilled and experienced bunch. In the coming weeks, I’ll take some time to highlight each of them individually.
Also, House Republican (R) leadership will meet with Governor-elect Huntsman to start coordinating agendas before the session. We have tough, unpopular decisions to make, and it looks like Jon is willing to roll up his sleeves and govern.
The week of 12/12, we’ll receive some preliminary revenue numbers for the next fiscal year and start the outline of a budget. As part of that process, the House majority caucus will meet all day to get a feel for where the members want to go. It’s always fun to see where the new group plans to head and, then, after the fact, see how closely we steered to that direction. After that House caucus meeting, House R leadership will meet with Senate R leadership to see how closely our agendas match.
